Review

Alexa Snow, author of Sleeping Stone, writes: Kyle Kincaid is an ex military man turned martial arts instructor when he becomes reacquainted with his employee Brodie's twin brother Trace. Still recovering from physical and emotional wounds sustained in the war in Iraq, Trace suffers from recurring nightmares and the excessive drinking he does to quell them. Even brief encounters make it clear to the two men that there's something significant and undeniable between them, and it comes clear that they shouldn't bother to try. Of course, love is always complicated...

This book is scorchingly hot. Readers who are looking for a story that doesn't lack for erotic and sensual scenes will be more than satisfied with this book! The characters are interesting and believable; the relationship between Trace and his twin sister Brodie is particularly well-developed and enjoyable to read about. There are a number of sub-plots entwined with the main romantic plot, and all of them are wrapped up to a reasonable degree by the end of the story. (This book is the third in a series that also includes Leather Nights and Undercover Nights, so readers who like Warrior Nights ought to consider reading the previous books as well!)

Kyle Kincaid sat cross-legged on the red yoga mat. The peaceful quiet of the early morning was disturbed only by the dawning sunlight which filtered through gaps in the venetian blinds that remained closed at the front of the studio. It was his favorite time of day. As he stretched his muscles, readying himself for the rigorous morning of training excited children of all ages, the brightening daylight filled his space. His thoughts turned where they had most mornings in the last two months, to the intriguing man he'd so recently come to know.

Trace Martin was coming home today. Brodie had called Kyle the previous evening to let him know that she'd be late to work, having to take the time early this morning to drive to Houston. She was going to pick her brother up from the rehab facility where he'd spent the last six weeks drying out and getting help for his addiction. Kyle hoped that he'd also learned some life skills and some mechanisms to help him cope with this world and make life for those around him easier.

Kyle's time, regardless of the fact that he was unexplainably preoccupied with thoughts of Trace, had been productive in Trace's absence. He'd finished the numerous projects on Brodie and Trace's house, assisting the girl whom he'd come to love as well as admire, and returning the house to its former condition, prior to the fire. They'd completely replaced the kitchen with a new and modern version, thanks to the money Brodie's homeowners' insurance had paid her.

Kyle had been able to change the ceiling in the kitchen as well as the dining room and living room, both ruined thanks to smoke damage, and a smooth finish now replaced the former acoustic tile, which had been put on when the house was built in the sixties. Brodie had chipped in a bit of savings and updated the kitchen floors with a terracotta tile in the Mexican style, which went well with her Southwestern taste in décor.

Kyle took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and exhaled slowly, picturing Trace's handsome face. The relaxation technique was much improved by visualization of the tall warrior. How would Trace have changed while he was away? Brodie hadn't been able to give Kyle much information. She'd only seen Trace once while he was away and had kept much of that visit to herself. Kyle understood that. Some things had to be worked out solitarily, and he knew that Trace's addiction and recovery was taking its toll on Brodie as well.

Though Kyle knew of Trace only what Brodie had told him, he had an overwhelming urge to get to know the man better. Kyle sensed the pain that Trace carried close to the surface, but he also instinctively knew that there was much more to be learned about him. The fact that Kyle's heart rate sped up to unbelievably exciting degrees whenever Trace was near, was telling.

The phone rang in Kyle's office, and he unwound his crossed limbs, then stood and walked into the back room to pick up the line. The voice on the other end surprised him, and he recognized it immediately.

"Kincaid?" Trace drawled when Kyle picked up.

"Trace," Kyle replied. He heard a throat clearing.

"Kincaid, it's Trace Martin; I just need a minute." His words were hesitant, his former bravado seemingly absent. "Are you busy?"

"Busy, no," Kyle replied. "I thought Brodie was picking you up this morning. Isn't she there yet?" He assumed Trace was still in Houston.

"Yes, she was there early. Actually, I am home. She dropped me off a few minutes ago, and she's on her way in."

"Oh, so she should be here shortly." Kyle was surprised to hear from Trace but even more intrigued by the purpose of his call. "Was there something I could ah… do for you, Trace?"
