In order to put off his well-meaning but curious cousins, Clay Garcia
agrees to spend a night at la charreada, the Mexican rodeo. But while
fending off the advances of his blind date, Lupe, Clay finds it hard not to
think about his older ranch-hand lover, Warshaw, and all the things they
could be getting up to. Now if only he can slip away...

At twenty-one, Clay worked full-time on his family's
sheep ranch, tucked away in the Sierra Nevada mountains of Central
California, part of a sleepy, loose-knit
agricultural community. He was wiry with ranch-honed muscle but still on
the skinny side, and he knew his traditional Mexican parents were
already itching for him to bring home a good Catholic seņorita and
announce he'd be settling down, getting married, and producing the next
generation of Garcias, pronto.
Clay could only imagine the trouble if he brought Warshaw home instead.
Drying off in front of the full-length mirror on the back of his bedroom
door, Clay
mentally ticked off the familiar litany of reasons why being with
Warshaw was a bad idea. Warshaw was nearly twice his age, for a start,
tall and rangy, with knowing blue eyes and a thick, salt-and-pepper
mustache that matched the long hair he kept pulled back in a ponytail.
He worked at a neighboring ranch, the Lone Manzanita, as well as taking
shearing jobs up and down the valley. He was older, white, and very,
very male.
Despite all that, he was everything Clay could have asked for.
