After meeting on the job and falling madly but responsibly, reasonably, and carefully in love, Ven and Toby are committed to each other as lovers and business partners. But they're about to find out that there's more to being a couple than just playing house and fooling around. They experience all the ups and downs of every other pair of lovers, but they have a few complications that are uniquely theirs.
Toby has two little girls from his first marriage who are still getting used to the idea that Daddy isn't coming back to live with Mama, an over-worked ex-wife, and meddling ex-in-laws. Ven's got his heart set on making an honest man of his lover but he's not quite sure he's ready to play second Daddy. It's going to take more than just hard work to lay the foundation for Toby and Ven's new life. Can they build something that lasts?
Renovations II: Foundation includes the following stories:
Renovations: In a Family Way
Renovations 4: Full House
Renovations 5: Mending Fences
Renovations 6: Coming Home

Toby brought the girls over to one of the windows so they could watch her walk to the car. “See, she’s looking now,” he said. “Time to wave!” Both girls waved vigorously, as though the faster and harder they waved, the more Brenda would know they missed her already.
They were cute. Ven could see Toby and Brenda both in them. He hadn’t been ready for how it would hit him, this proof that Toby had been married before. The other times Toby had the kids around, it was like they’d been babysitting. Now, the kids were here. Toby’s kids. Ven breathed and waited, leaning on the doorframe, for the girls to turn away from the window. He waited for Toby to tell them what to do now. It was strange, too, to be waiting on someone else for all his cues.
Once Brenda was out of the driveway and far enough down the street that the girls couldn’t see her anymore, Toby drew them away from the window. “Let’s go upstairs and see your bedroom, okay?” He glanced at Ven, smiling, obviously thrilled to have his kids there with them.
Ven picked up their bags, but offered them their pillows to carry. “Your dad and I didn’t decorate it yet. You’ll have to tell us what you want in it so we can fix it up right for you and it’s all yours, okay?” He offered the two of them a smile.
Charlotte smiled back at him, sweet and trusting, and took her pillow, wrapping it up in her arms. “We can make it pink?”
