Brian is overseeing the remodel of a 40’s era home when
he and his crew find someone’s souvenir from World War II: a grenade. When
Tristan, Brian’s cop boyfriend, stops by with a friend from the bomb squad
to check and see if their find is the real deal, Tristan gets a whole
different perspective on Brian. A hardhat, work boots, denim and flannel are
not just a whole lot of sexy on the normally more professionally dressed
Brian, they are kind of tough looking too. Maybe Brian can handle all the
parts of Tristan’s life, even the tough bits. Sometimes, the small things
can lead to some pretty big changes.

Back outside, Brian hunted down Ken and explained to
the contractor that everything was on hold until the problem could be
dealt with. If they were lucky it would only take a few hours. Even
though it was late enough in the afternoon that the workmen could have
gone on home, sheer curiosity it seemed, inspired them to linger.
Tristan drew Brian over to the side of the house away from the people,
but within sight of the street.
"So what's up with the roach stompers and the hard hat?" teased Tristan,
tipping Brian's hard hat down over his eyes slightly.
"It's a job site. Specifically it's a job site undergoing a partial
demolition. Ever had anybody drop a brick on your head? Not a fun event
without a hard hat. Why?" Brian took the hard hat off and tucked it
under his arm.
"It's not a look I've seen on you before. You don't look out of place
for a white collar guy who usually wears a tie to work."
Brian grinned a bit. "What makes you think I don't know my way around a
construction site?"
Tristan shrugged. "I don't know. It's just unexpected."
"My uncle's a general contractor. I spent pretty much every summer all
the way through high school and college wielding a hammer and spackling
dry wall.
"I think I like you looking all dusty and rugged." Tristan's hands were
in his pockets and even though there were a careful couple of feet
between them, Brian was amused by Tristan's flirty look. |
