Amusement park employee Cody hates July Fourth because
it's the anniversary of his break up with pretty boy Jaime, a man he used to
date and sub for. He changes his tune after a near accident causes Jaime to
break the silence between them. They reconnect in more ways than one and go
on to create highly naughty fireworks of their own.

Cody sighed while he punched in by sliding his ID
card through the slot at the top of the timeclock. It was July fourth,
and the Great Adventure amusement park had expanded their hours to
midnight tonight so that people could celebrate in a safe,
family-friendly environment. This also meant that he'd been able to grab
a much needed double shift. Some of his co-workers had balked at the
idea of working today, but he didn't mind at all because he didn't want
to be alone.
For most people, barbecues, fireworks, and laughter were associated with
the Fourth. All Cody could think about was that he'd broken up with
Jaime on this day a year ago.
It had seemed like a good idea at the time. Too bad it'd turned out to
be the wrong decision. He paused at that moment and decided to stop
obsessing about the past... things were going to be hopping today and he
needed to open the ticket booth. He trudged over to his locker and
changed into his uniform in record time, as he needed to hustle. Once he
was dressed, he glanced at the chart for his assignment.
Great, just great -- he had the middle station. He hated that register
-- everything always seemed to go wrong when he worked at it. His very
first paper cut from handling money had happened there, his register had
been the first to crash when the upgrade to the main system had gone
wrong, and he didn't even want to think about the incident with the
drunk guy who had passed out at his window. He used to joke with Jaime
that there was a curse on the register and one day, it was going to get
him. |
