Much to the amazement of friends and family, drunken Gordon James has become a world famous poet under the name of Gordon Veil. As fantastic as that might seem to all who knew him when, the story of how Gordon made his new life is just as amazing, and far more magical.

A chance meeting with a fairy in a bottle of absinthe leave Gordon questioning his life, and his denial that he finds men attractive. Can it be the fairy who gives him everything he needs, from some hot loving to a new life?

For those who knew him back then, it seemed beyond unlikely that Gordon Veil was to become one of the great poets of the age.

Gordon James, as was his name at that time, had shown no talent or interest what-so-ever in the arts. No one had ever seen him read a book; hell, no one even suspected he could read! Gordon James had been a simple man. Not too clever and not too bright. Some even called him lazy. He was not well liked amongst the workers at the docks, the drinking buddies, and the farmers at the market who stood beside him when he sold his so-called antiques, which were hardly more than junk and scraps. Not that that kept him from pricing his goods far above market level...

But then again, he had a passionate affair with the bottle, and bottles costs money, so they didn't judge him too hard on that. They just didn't buy his old, rusty pans and leaky barrels.

Even then, though, he had a touch of romance to him, which would later grow into legend. Under uncut, blond hair, baby blue eyes gazed at the world. And the way that he moved was the way of a king. His back was straight, his steps were sure, and his neck was tilted a little bit backwards, so that he seemed to look down at people and not straight at them. He never did excuse himself or cry, as so many drunkards do. Nor beg the father in heaven for forgiveness of a life forfeit and lost to women and drink.

No, Gordon James just smiled that little, wry smile of his and moved on. He hauled barrels at the docks, sold his antiques at the market, flirted with the cheapest whores and drank his way through many a merry night.

And there was his scar: a long, thin, white line that cut his face in two halves. Some said it was his mother who had given it to him, when he was a child. Others said it was from fighting, or that one of the whores he had seduced into giving herself for free had finally had enough of him and cut him up to get her money...not that he had much of that anyway. But he did have whores.

Gordon was a charmer and that might have been one of the real reasons why the men at the docks didn't like him much. Even the stern and elderly women seemed to flock around him and sometimes even bought his useless crap at the market, just to be near him. He didn't have to work very hard for the attention either. He just had it, naturally, his very own way of making women blush and sigh and want to give him cookies.

Scar and all, Gordon James with his uncut hair had the power to sway with just a look.

And he knew it.

And he used it.

Not in a smart and ambitious way. Oh no, he never tried out his charm on a woman who could really make a difference in his life: the widows, the rich and bored... No, he just stuck to his own turf and made working men's lives miserable by having their daughters and wives shiver and yearn for his attention. He even created wars among the whores. Not the delicate and perfumed whores, but the filthy and liquor-scented cheap whores, whose hope of a future were long gone.

No wonder that it came as a surprise, then, when a few years after he mysteriously disappeared, Gordon James had become Gordon Veil, and Gordon Veil a celebrated poet among the rich, a star among the intellectuals.

No wonder that they wondered, the men and women from his past, how that filthy, drunken, useless charmer of a man had come to take up the pen and write lines about life and love and the cruelty of death...

So how did it happen? How was it that a man who had nothing, suddenly had it all? That is a question that deserves an answer and this is just that story. A story about the passion of Gordon Veil, and what was hidden beneath his skin...
