Eremy from Of One Mind, is now Fully Awakened and in search of the one
true love he's been waiting for his entire life. Things get complicated,
however, when he finds his destined mate Jody in a hospital, battling the
same cancer that claimed Jody's grandfather. Telepathically bonded couples
live together -- and die together, a fact Jody learned far too young. Jody
is afraid he'll drag Eremy with him into an early grave, but will his
determination to protect his mate's life put Eremy's sanity at risk instead?

Eremy stopped by the window. He
stared out, though there was nothing to see except the parking lot. Finally,
the tension in his back and shoulders eased somewhat. "How long?"
"What?"
"How long do you have to be cancer-free before you'll agree that it's safe
enough?" Eremy turned and met Jody's worried gaze. He came back to the bed
and caught up both of Jody's hands, holding them so tightly they hurt. "I
love you, Jody," he whispered. "I want you. I've wanted you since the first
time I saw you. Goddess,
I've wanted you since before I was old enough to know what that even meant.
I'll try to wait, if that's what you need, but... I need to know that
there's an end to it. Tell me how long I have to wait for you."
"I-- I don't--" Statistics and numbers whirled through Jody's head, but they
all seemed meaningless. "A year? At least a year. Yeah."
Eremy grimaced, then nodded. "All right." He kissed Jody, hard. Jody started
to resist and then capitulated, reveling in the passion of that kiss, the
sweet taste of Eremy's mouth, the feel of a hand on his neck. Just as he
started to melt into Eremy's embrace, Eremy released him. "One year," he
said. He was breathing hard, his eyes darkened with lust. "I should go,
before I do something I shouldn't." He kissed Jody again, tenderly this
time, his tongue teasing until Jody was all but ready to surrender. When the
kiss ended, Eremy stood frozen, his eyes still closed, his lips still
faintly parted. He sighed, then backed
slowly
away, his hand clinging in Jody's until the last possible instant.
"Definitely going now." He flashed a grin, and Jody knew all was forgiven.
"Call me tomorrow, when you get home." |
