While the SIS team takes a deep breath after dealing with demons and unattractive blood-sucking vampires, FBI agent and Division P operative Gabrielle Dichenz has personal issues that must be dealt with. She must confront her abusive ex in a courtroom. Fortunately, her new love, SIS agent John Benchley and his lover, Evan Garrett, also an SIS agent, have her back. Gabrielle and Evan’s friendship is also changing, becoming warmer. Both John and Gabrielle have a lot of past baggage and there aren’t exactly a lot of roadmaps for ménage relationships, but all three are trying to figure it out.

In the meantime, dead bodies keep coming up missing in and around Washington D.C. Reports of those corpses shambling around just prior to their being discovered in out-of-the-way locations around the city are just the unreliable memories of unobservant and imaginative bystanders. Right? Or are they? And just why would somebody steal an already dead body anyway?

Review

Jane Davitt, author of Hourglass, writes: In this sequel to 'I Could Drink Hot Blood', A R Moler adds another to this series featuring the people who work for the SIS -- the Special Investigative Services. Crime with a paranormal twist, vampires, zombies, telepaths and more are all in the day's work for the team, and it makes for a fast-paced, exciting read.

I liked the way that the case features someone not wholly unsympathetic at first. Dr Lucas Kleinfelter is stealing bodies to perfect a system to reanimate his dead wife, Kathryn, and misguided though his methods are, there's a touch of macabre humor about his frustration as the artifacts he buys show up with no instructions. That hint of humor is present throughout the book, adding a sparkle to the writing.

The book has three threads running through it, the case itself, Brie's difficulty with her abusive ex, who won't stay away, and the growing closeness between her and John Benchley, her lover, and John's lover, Evan Garrett. I enjoyed the way that the three of them slowly negotiate their way to a stable companionship and the scenes between the three of them are intense and hot. There's a strong element of caring that adds tenderness to every encounter between the three, either in pairs of together.

This was a great addition to the series that will leave readers wanting more.

"And here I thought we'd end up ordering out," said John, resting his chin on Evan's shoulder. Evan was chopping vegetables on a cutting board. He sensed a certain amusement from John and wondered what had inspired it.

"It's hot outside. A big bowl of salad and sandwiches seemed like a good idea," replied Evan. He twisted enough to meet John's mouth in a kiss.

"Cecelia did it again."

"Huh? Oh! You and Brie this time? Were you naked?"

"My shirt was unbuttoned," said Gabrielle. "We hadn't really gotten beyond that part."

Evan laughed. "I've never figured out if she has the world's worst timing or if maybe it's her secret power."

John slid an arm around Evan's waist, and groped Evan's crotch with the opposite hand.

"Please note the really big knife in my hand," said Evan. "Unless you want blood in your salad…"

"Sorry."

Gabrielle tugged on John's sleeve. "I'll keep him occupied for at least a few minutes." They vanished out into the den. Evan finished assembling the salad and looked into the other room.

John was sitting on the sofa with Brie in his lap facing him. Her blouse was undone and Evan surmised that the two of them must be picking up where they left off. He stood, watching them. John had that look on his face that Evan had seen more than once, that look of pure adoration. He'd been on the receiving end of that look enough to relish the intensity of the emotion that it represented. What had Brie said one night at her house? Being with John could be like jumping into the furnace with both feet? Too true. John kissed his way across her collarbone to her shoulder, then down across her chest over the curve of one of her breasts as he removed her bra. Brie's mouth nuzzled at John's temple and nipped at his ear.

Evan leaned on the wall, still watching. He wasn't often into the voyeur thing, but this was personal and intimate and they were his lovers. He was already half hard by the time Brie began stripping John out of his shirt. Seeing the soft drag of skin on skin as Brie's breasts rubbed on John's chest was filling Evan's cock even more. Evan started to adjust his slacks, trying to relieve the discomfort, but the pressure of his own hand only intensified the arousal. He crossed his arms, trying to convince himself not to jack off like some horny teenager watching porn.

John's fingers tangled in Brie's hair, holding her close as he ravaged her mouth.

Evan wanted, no, needed a touch from John or Brie or both, but he held himself still. The two of them deserved a few minutes of one on one, he told himself.

John turned his head and gave Evan slow curious smile. "I think maybe we could help you with that," his eyes lighting on the straining fabric at Evan's groin.

Brie crooked a finger, beckoning Evan.
