I.

In the beginning, Earth was new: a raw diamond struggling to escape the red mists of birth and creation, to become...

From the brewing pits of chaos rose the idea like brilliant light, sparkling... shining... A planet in its own right populated with those It saw fit. Molded in brown and embraced by flowing water. Air was there. And fire.

It said light. And there was light. It smiled then, as It saw it appear, illuminating the blue and green, living and breathing gem It had created.

But the Earth was a crude place, as the creator was young. The source of it all unknown to It as It molded Its first world from Its ideas. Much went wrong and the first life on the planet was not Its idea at all...

They were Its first lesson; without darkness there can be no light.

From the depths of Its mind, this divine child brought forth creatures of beauty and wisdom. All strong, and knowing. It made them female, It made them male. It decided they would breed as couples -- as It had learned now that the one could not exist without the other. No day, no night, no darkness, no light. So would Its first creatures mirror day and night. Equal in all but with different qualities. It decided the females would carry children in their wombs, reminding It of Earth's creation, from the depths to solid soil. It created the moon as their mirror. For the males, It already had the sun.

Yet, It could not let them go to live on their own. It loved Its creatures dearly and the Earth was far from perfect for them. For when It created Its angels, another life struggled free from Its mind. The opposite species: the demon breed. Cast from the fertile space of creation they fell to earth as discarded debris. Spawn that grew on earth, air, water, fire and became the clans.

For a long time It neglected Earth. Unwilling to see what It had created. It rested with Its angels and created a world for them. This was a world of light; It called this world Heaven. The Angels were a wise and compassionate people, their understanding limitless. Air was their element, and their focus was the mind.

It thought about innocence and fragility. It thought of humans.
