House sitting for his uncle seems like the perfect way for Justin to spend the summer before entering graduate school. The fact that his long-time crush, Dr. Ray Kimble, lives next door sweetens the deal. Justin’s hopes of fulfilling a teenage fantasy are dashed by Ray’s past heartbreak until an accident offers the opportunity for some TLC.

Damn. Ray Kimble looked even better than Justin remembered, and that was saying something. Tall, hazel eyes that lit up when Ray smiled, dark hair that Justin knew was curly when it wasn't so short. Ray's face had thinned out, accentuating his check bones. Justin hadn't gotten much of a look at the rest of Ray during their brief conversation over the fence, but his mind was more than willing to fill in the details.

And Justin didn't think he'd imagined the spark of interest in those pretty hazel eyes.

His summer house sitting gig had just gotten more interesting.

Justin dropped Frank off at the airport in his own car -- Frank's was already safely stored in the garage -- and made his way to the grocery store. He had no idea what Ray's schedule was like; he knew the man was a resident at the local hospital and he was under the impression that residents worked a lot, but was pretty clueless beyond that. Still, Ray had to have time off eventually and Justin planned to be ready for a spontaneous get together.

Of course, for all Justin knew, Ray was still involved with... whatever his name was. Todd? Terry? Something with a T, anyway. Justin hadn't seen Ray in a couple of years and it hadn't occurred to him to ask Frank for details.

Justin wondered if Ray remembered the awful crush Justin had had on him the summer Justin was sixteen. Ray was twenty-two and just starting medical school. To Justin's mind, Ray was an experienced older man; he tagged around Ray that summer, back when the house Ray was living in still belonged to Ray's parents. Ray tolerated him pretty well, given that he must have been really annoying.
