Ryan knew marrying a military man would be difficult,
he just didn't realize how difficult. It's been over a year since he's seen
Daniel in the 2035 world of shortages, man-made disasters, and conflicts.
He'll do the best he can until he and Daniel are together again because
eventually, it will get better when he has Daniel back. No matter how long
he has to wait.

The rest of the night was torturous fun for Ryan. It
was great to see everyone, it really had been too long. He laughed just
as loud but watching the couples only underscored the absence of his
other half. He looked on his friends' happiness and felt the lack of his
own. Midnight came and went before everyone gathered their things to
leave.
Ryan stood beside Phil at the door where they watched through the small
window until the cars had driven away.
Phil put an arm over Ryan's shoulder and leaned on him. "I know I'm not
Daniel, but I'm a great listener."
"I know. But I'm okay."
"Really?"
Ryan nodded, knowing it as the truth. He'd been a military husband for
five years; he knew how it went. "Really. He'll come home eventually." |
