Ethan and Connor wind up mostly naked in the shower
together, but that's where the story ends. Going Under tells the rest of
their story, from end to beginning, via annoying co-workers and strange
British women. And for Connor, a young trans-man who's only recently
finished transitioning, it's as much a story of finding the place where he
belongs as it is of finding the person who belongs in that space with him.

Ethan said, "I know what to expect, I won't freak
out."
I might. Ethan was only the second person Connor had brought home since
his final surgery. "It's not about you."
Ethan sighed in Connor's ear, then rested his chin on Connor's shoulder.
Connor leaned back into him, enjoying the feeling of being held -- Ethan
was only a couple of inches taller than him, but muscled from five years
working backstage in a theater. Solid in a way Connor wasn't. "What do
you want?" Ethan asked.
A big part of Connor wanted to go back to an hour ago, when he'd been
dancing with Ethan and said, "Come home with me." Or maybe to five weeks
ago, when they'd started dating, or two months before that, when they'd
first met.
He listened to the other part, instead: the part that had made him say
yes to a date, made him explain who he was to Ethan, made him say, "Come
home with me." The part of him that wanted this.
