Nick is fascinated by the young man who sits alone in his favorite bar,
Blue’s. When a chance presents itself for Nick to make his approach, he
grabs it. It turns out to be a chance not only to meet the man, Connor, but
to help him change his life for the better.
Connor’s story is terrible. Nick and the bar owner help Connor out of the
horror of his life and Nick literally takes Connor home with the offer of a
small job. Will Connor take the chance to make something of his life, and
will Nick realize that Connor has fallen hard for him and step up and do
something about it?

“Are you feeling like a kept boy, Connor?”
“No, you’d have to be doing me for me to feel like a kept boy. Boy? Hey, man
here. I’m twenty-one next month, you know. I have a job, a home, sort of,
and some money. I can do what I want with whoever I want to now, can’t I?”
Nick noticed that Connor was looking closely at him for his response. Why
did he suddenly feel like he was walking through a mine field?
“Absolutely. I…is there someone you’ve met? Someone new you want to be with,
Connor?” Nick couldn’t bring himself to go further. He honestly didn’t want
to know that much.
“No one new, no. I just don’t want you to think of me as a boy, as your
project anymore. I’ve changed. With your, and Tommy’s help, I’m on my feet
like you promised.” Connor looked like he wanted to say more.
“I think you’ve done great. You’ve come farther in just six months than I
ever imagined. I’m amazed at your mental health. I’d be a basket case if I’d
gone through what you did. But you are a clear-headed, strong, independent
young man. You should be very proud of yourself. And yes, you can do
anything you want to with whoever you want. Do you have a person in mind? Do
I know them?” Nick made himself ask.
His desire to help Connor had slowly turned to plain old desire pretty soon
after Connor moved in. Nick had watched Connor change and grow and become
the wonderful young man before him. They’d been through a lot together. Nick
had insisted on the testing and counseling and a complete physical and had
helped Connor start a bank account of his own. He didn’t expect payment of
any kind. Connor’s success was all he could ever want. Well…
“You’re not usually this slow, Nick. What I want is you.”
Well, just come right out there and say it, why don’t ya?
Nick almost staggered at hearing his own best wishes spoken out loud. As
much as he’d always thought Connor was a very hot young man, he had truly
not helped him in order to get a lover out of the process. He’d helped
Connor because he’d been unable to not help him.
“You…are you sure? You’re not still trying to pay me back, are you? Cause we
talked about that. You worked for me, you paid me back. I enjoyed helping
you get on your feet. You don’t have to…” Nick shut up when Connor put a
hand over his mouth. Connor was as tall as Nick and had filled out with good
food and healthy living. And, Nick was only thirty, so he wasn’t really
robbing the cradle, much.
