The worst thing in the world isn’t being gay. Not even
close. It’s not even being a werewolf. The worst thing in the world is being
in love with your roommate and having that love be unrequited. No matter
what Steve does, Rick just isn’t responding. Will he give up too soon on
making Rick his mate?

"Tell me it gets better."
"Huh?" Rick glanced over at Steve, his thumbs not even missing a beat on
his game controller. He loved Resident Evil, even if it was a cliché
these days. "The game? It's pretty good right now."
"No." Steve threw a honey roasted peanut at him from across the way, the
remnants of their beer and cheese tray snack all around.
"Being gay?"
Steve had come out of the closet like a week ago at the ripe age of
twenty-eight. It had shocked the shit out of everyone but Rick, who had
been Steve's roommate for three years, and who knew what kind of stuff
Steve got off on late at night when no one was looking. He also knew
that Steve had gotten laid more in the last week than he had in the last
three years, so it was hard to think the man wanted that to get better.
"No, asshat!"
"Well, what then?" Rick sighed, his last game life going down the drain.
Maybe it was time to go get another beer.
"This whole werewolf thing. Tell me it gets better."
"Oh." He grinned a little. Steve had come out of the closet as gay
because he couldn't come out as a werewolf. Something about how he
wanted to tell the truth about something in his life. "I dunno, man.
I've been a shifter since I was born, so it's not like I had a choice."
"Hey! It's not like I chose it, either." |
