About Another Fine MessEdited by Syd McGinley It seemed like a good idea at the time… Ever done something that seemed like a bright idea at the time and lived to tell the tale? That's the idea behind Another Fine Mess. Editor Syd McGinley has gathered ten stories from some of Torquere's favorite authors to prove that everyone has bad days, where getting into a mess is far easier than getting out of one. Whether they like to get into trouble or ride to the rescue, the boys of Another Fine Mess will leave you wanting more. Featuring authors Lee Benoit, Cassidy Ryan and Laney Cairo, these stories will make you wonder how the guys will ever get out of the messes they make, and thrill you when they do! List of Stories Dragonwalker by Lee Benoit ReviewCB Potts, author of the Rockhound series, writes: Dragons, vampires, meth dealers and Thatchers -- if you were ever in the market for an action packed anthology that keeps you on the edge of your seat, Another Fine Mess is it. There are ten stories in Another Fine Mess, all of which find hot boys in hotter water. All of them are incredibly well written and atmospheric: if I had a caveat, I’d say this isn’t an anthology you’ll read all in one sitting, because you’ll want time to sit and think about each tale. That’s a very good thing, as these are stories that will stick with you. Dragon Walker by Lee Benoit is surprising and complex. I thought I knew what was going to happen to naive-yet-very-sexy Endi, only to have what should have been a predictable love story turn into something very different -- and so much better! Blood Rubies, from the team of Sparrow and Brooks, features Samir and Harrison, and, as always, it’s a smoking hot atmospheric tale that delivers on many levels. Read this one twice. You don’t get it all the first time through. Hunter’s Kiss by Margaret Leigh is a great tale of vampire angst, and while I’m not generally a fan of angst, I’ll make exceptions when it’s delivered side by side with well thought out action and smoldering sex. Finding Trouble by Misa Izanaki is an especial favorite: those of you who enjoy M. Christian’s work will find a tale reminiscent of his best work -- a lovely story with complex twists and just enough darkness to make you long for more. Unfinished Business is ten kinds of awesome: there’s bikers and trouble and mystery and love that conquers common sense. Kudos to Laney Cairo for this one -- and quite frankly, I wish I’d written it myself! Magenta, by Camilla Bruce, is well written and terrifying in parts, tantalizing in others. It’s my first exposure to Camilla’s work, and it definitely won’t be the last. The Alpha Bet by Cassidy Ryan wins the prize for best title EVER and also great power exchange. Unravel by Mychael Black features a fashion designer with his own unique style: terribly well written, I’m not sure whether I should feel bad for or applaud Dan for bullying his way into a rather enticing situation. Julia Talbot turns in a Thatcher’s tale that features a jail break and the consequences thereof. A Jolly Good Idea, by Syd McGinley, is the most romantic piece, and if you’re a fan of ‘stranger in a strange land’ stories, you’re going to love this. Overall, it’s a strong book. Each story is engaging: all of the characters find themselves in trouble. It’s the way they get themselves out of harm’s way that will keep you reading. Strongly recommended. SampleFrom Dragonwalker By Lee Benoit It all starts with a blowjob. As it turns out, the blowjob itself isn’t all that important. In fact, it doesn’t even have all of my attention, or I wouldn’t have noticed the wings. I’m on my knees in Peter’s kitchen. I’d come to walk his dog at lunchtime, like always, and he’d popped home from his office in the next town over because he’d “forgotten something.” Yeah, to stick his dick in my mouth, that’s what he forgot. Not that I’m not happy to oblige. But there’s happy and then there’s happy, if you know what I mean. He smoothes his hand over my hair as I suck him off. He isn’t guiding me, or forcing me, no, he’s tidying me up. That’s Peter all over: his priority during fellatio isn’t getting off, or holding off, or controlling my technique, it’s subduing my unruly hair. How a guy like him can own a dog is beyond me. But the dog, not his dick, is why I’m there, and we both know it. Without letting up on my patented bob and weave technique, I swivel my eyes around to see if Blackie’s still in the room. Call me a freak, but I think it’s kind of impolite of Peter to get sucked off in front of his dog, especially since he says his dog is neutered. There’s Blackie, sitting in a shaft of noontime sun from the kitchen window, watching us without blinking, his yellow ear fur all lit up. Oh, yeah, Blackie’s not black; Black is Peter’s last name, arrogant jerk. In the light from the window, it looks like Blackie isn’t a dog, either. He dances his paws a little on the floor, flexing his shoulders, and I swear I see a pair of wings extend behind and above him, flap once, and fold back into nothing. It’s a good thing Peter’s just finished shooting down my throat because I spit out his floppy prick and sit back hard on the green linoleum. “Did you see that?” I yell. About the Editor |
